New Work!

It's been a while since I have shared new work, so here is a taste of some recent items!

TRAVELDESK21 : I Designed the logo for this start-up luggage company based in Dallas, TX. Check out the company's story on their website (that I also designed and coded)! www.traveldesk21.com

PELVIC PROFESSOR : Teaming up with fellow designers is always fun and refreshing! I worked with the lovely Stacy Clark Design and provided her the illustration of the "Pelvic Professor." This is a women's health targeted item and the Pelvic Professor herself was very pleased with my rendering of herself!

MASTER'S : Master's Barber & Styling College based in Mt. Juliet, TN was looking for a total brand overhaul and wanted a modern take on traditional barbering. There are many creative elements to come, but the first had to be the new logo!

My site reconstruction is still underway and once I have all that finalized there will more new work and a fabulous new layout! But for now...Enjoy! I hope your Memorial Day Weekend is filled with sunshine and backyard BBQ's!

Workin' up a sweat!

WOW. These past few months have been a BLUR of design and travel. Spent time in D.C. and Chicago taking in the sights, design and local goodness, as well as, checking out travel industry competition for Hartmann at the 2011 Travel Goods Show. Oh and can I just say, Hartmann knocked it out of the ballpark!?!! I'm a little bit partial, but the Packcloth Collection is so retro-chic...the turquoise color Comb Bag is my new must have. It's prefect timing as the 70's feel is making a resurgence in the fashion arena!

If you are in the Middle Tennessee area, come down to Lebanon this Saturday, April 9th and join me in the Byar's Dowdy ROAR RUN! It's a local 5K (You can choose to Walk or Run) to promote fitness for kids and the community. All proceeds go to the local elementary schools to furnish playground equipment. Even if you aren't around to participate, take a little walk/run to support healthy living within your community!

I'm looking forward to more inspirational travel in the coming months...I'll be back in Chicago, London, Berlin and a quick jaunt down to sunny St. Croix. In the meantime, all this adventure and recent design work has my creative juices revved up and I'm finally ready to plunge into my planned facelift of Oh, Deer! So, don't be alarmed if you find a new look and new portfolio work one day...It's some over-due spring cleaning! Happy Monday!

Oh, Happy Day! Time to throw my phone away!

I'm bursting with joy, because today it was announced that the iPhone is coming to Verizon Wireless in February! Some would say, "So what? The iPhone has been around for ages at AT&T." Well, those who say that obviously don't live in Tennessee, haha. AT&T drops calls left and right...not to mention that their network is slow as molasses. Needless to say, in this neck of the woods, Verizon is THE network to rock your phone calls on. So, I look forward to being a future iPhone owner. You just won't see me waiting in any lines for any extended period of time. I'm excited, yes. But my inner skeptic just hopes all the hype is worth it. I mean, it's not like they are giving these gadgets away and they haven't even released the plan options yet, either. It's kind of like when I was young and begged for an American Girl doll for years and in 5th grade I finally received the golden gift from Santa. Ahem...only to find out that they were no longer so cool to play with, haha. So cheers to Verizon and hopes that all of this hoopla goes off without a hitch! Happy work week to all and happy snow day to those in Middle Tennessee! :)

I do love a good laugh...

So it being a Monday, I figured I'd share some funny business. My sister sent me this link and it turned out to be nothing like I had expected...http://kimjongillookingatthings.tumblr.com/

I totally thought that it would be a bunch of photoshop mash-up craziness. But no, apparently, Kim Jong Il just looks at things, haha. He almost looks like he has never even seen his country before and is visiting it for the first time...which, I mean that could quite possibly be true, haha. Enjoy!

Merry Making

teapartyinvite

So, I don't know about you, but my holiday spirit is in full swing! I just made the cutest invitation for a mother daughter christmas tea party...(I've put fake info in for this post to protect their privacy, so sorry you're not invited) but here it is! This is so sweet, the only things missing are the sugar plums and fairies, haha. I hope everyone had a blessed Thanksgiving and is gettin' into the giving of this holiday season! Cheers to you all!

Where Does The Time Go....

For real! Where does the time go!?I have been racking up those SkyMiles for sure over the past few weeks and have been a busy bee diligently filing design requests and preparing for the upcoming holidays with paintings, stationary and more that will be for sale soon. It's design/work/life 24/7 so hopefully I can set aside some time to make a proper online store. But,I am definitely taking a weekend to myself and plan on enjoying the changing leaves and the smell of autumn. But, of course i can't sit still... think I might have myself a mini-road-trip and pay the parents an overdue visit. There is just something about travel...it's always calling me! Plus, rumor has it, my talented Momma has made me some custom signature curtains...SCORE!

The Vera Wang for Hartmann Launch Party was a big success and we have been running around the office taking in requests for press kits, product and the like. Shout out to the Vera team, as they were so delightful to work with!

Also, I just got back from the Motivation Show in Chicago, too. We have been equally pleased with the compliments on our booth set up and product assortment displays. High-five marketing team!

I hope everyone is enjoying the mild weather and smell of autumn leaves! Happy Friday!

Business + Pleasure

Man, where does the time go?! I have, yet again, been all over the place. And this is just the beginning! I love when design and travel combine aka match made in heaven! I'm going to be in NYC the rest of the week & end taking the city in. Hartmann is hosting a wicked launch party for our Vera Wang for Hartmann Collection and needless to say, I am very excited! The luggage is so chic and modern! I hope all you editors out there are prepared because once the world takes a peek at the collection, especially in person...they are going to want it. I know I'm all over it! haha. I'm also going to be trotting around town with some of my Tennessee transplants, which is perfect timing considering the seasonal change. It will be good to collect some new inspiration from the surroundings. Feel free to give me a ring if you would like to meet up to talk shop or business! MoMa anyone?

Pet Cloud

This is just precious. NYC Photographer Michael Casker has a whimsical set of photos illustrating a girl and her pet cloud. I can say I have never considered befriending the weather, but it looks like fun! Mr. Casker has more wonderful work over at his website, but this just put a big smile on my face! Visit his site and see the rest of the cloud cuteness, Happy Monday!

Nothin' but love...

house

I've got nothin' but love for the fine folks over at House Industries. Here is what they have to say about themselves over at House:

Known throughout the world as a prolific type foundry, House Industries has made a considerable impact on the world of design. House Industries fonts scream from billboards, wish happy whatever from tens of thousands of greeting cards, serve as the basis for consumer product logos and add elements of style to a wide range of mainstream media. In their illustrious career, House artists have mastered a large cross-section of design disciplines. Their typography deftly melds cultural, musical and graphic elements. From early forays into distressed digital alphabets to sophisticated type and lettering systems, House Industries’ work transcends graphic conventions and reaches out to a broad audience. What ultimately shines in the House Industries oeuvre is what always conquers mediocrity: a genuine love for their subject matter. Be it hot rods, classically relevant lettering or Swiss Modernism, House continues to provide typographic optimism in this age of the lowest aesthetic common denominator.

I certainly get the sense that their House is built on the love for design. I'm going to have to snatch up some prints for my new place...the burnt-retro-orange color scheme they have going on here will match my new recliner perfectly! Which leads to the big news on the horizon...the Oh, Deer! studio is moving! woo hoo! I've found a lovely new place outside of Nashville and will be shifting my worldly belongings over the next 2-3 weeks. I spent my weekend at local auctions and the like looking for diamonds in the rough to restore. I lucked out with some serious gems. I'm an big fan of "recycling" furniture. Buying antiques and revamping existing furniture is, in my eyes, the greenest way to go. So, with some steel wool, stain and a little elbow grease I now have some new pieces. Familiar with Stiffel Lamps? Well, I nabbed a set for $15...they are actually worth over $100 a piece...so you really never know what you are going to find!! Antiques Road Show anyone? haha. I really had a blast and a half at the auction...seriously, if you don't know what to do on a Saturday night, go to an auction. You will not be disappointed for a number of reasons. Just go, you'll know what I'm talking about when you get there. Ciao!

MOBA.

So, the other day I was listening to NPR on my way to the office and they did a story on MOBA. MOBA stands for Museum of Bad Art, haha. Certainly a red-headed step child to lovely MOMA, but none the less entertaining. If you're in the mood to be enlightened by bad art then click on over to their website www.museumofbadart.org or visit one of their 3 galleries in the Boston, MA area. It's all for sale and I'm kinda diggin' the blue faced "Mama & Babe"...I think I might purchase that for our office dirty santa gift exchange, haha. Apparently the curator scours trash, yard sales, Goodwill and they even take donations to add to the collection. They have a large collection, but only showcase 50 or so works at a time. So, if you or someone you know is a non-talented artist looking to make it in the big leagues, this is the stuff dreams are made of! haha
